Together, the Richmond Outdoors Coalition partners provide a pathway of frequent, meaningful and connected experiences in nature for Richmond Youth and Families.

Programs

  • Bay Area Wilderness training

    HIKING

    Bay Area Wilderness Training provides Hiking Leadership Training, a full day Professional Development for WCCUSD teachers to learn how to lead hiking trips with students

  • Bike Bus

    BIKING

    A Bike Bus is led by ROC Steering Committee Member Maria Weatherborne; a guided group biking trip for 50-100 people ages 7 and up, to support families to attend YES Nature to Neighborhoods community event YES Fest at Nicholl Park, including a bike giveaway!

  • ESCAPE Club

    OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

    ESCAPE Club at DeJean Middle School takes students on 9 field trips to various outdoor locations, including Yosemite, San Francisco and the snow in Tahoe, and hosts a family celebration at the end of the year.

  • Golden Gate Bird Alliance

    BIRDING

    Golden Gate Bird Alliance offers 3-4 Eco Ed and Birding classroom programs and 1-3 field trips for grades 4, 7, 8 and 9-12.

  • Growing Together

    GARDENING

    Growing Together provides 10 gardening classes and 1 farm field trip to all TK-6th grade classes plus weekly after school enrichment for 3 cohorts of students at Nystrom Elementary

  • Headwaters Science Institute

    OUTDOOR SCIENCE INQUIRY

    Headwaters Science Institute leads science inquiry during after school enrichment and 1 Saturday field day for TK-6 grade at Nystrom

  • Inner City Bliss

    MINDFULNESS AND MOVEMENT

    Inner City Bliss leads 3 mindfulness and movement sessions for every K-3rd grade class at Verde and Nystrom, 48 guided meditation sessions for the Mafanikio program for African American students at Nystrom as well as family outings annually for the schools and community.

  • KIDS for the BAY

    SCIENCE AND STEWARDSHIP

    KIDS for the BAY provides 2 watershed education classroom sessions and two field trips (1 walking, 1 bus) for TK/Kinder, 2nd and 5th grade classes at Nystrom and Verde.

  • The Watershed Projct

    WATERSHED EXPLORATION AND CONNECTION

    The Watershed Project leads 3-5 watershed classroom programs and 1 field trip for all 1st, 3rd and 6th grade classes at Nystrom and Verde and one 7th grade class at Verde; 5-7 ocean acidification classroom programs and 1 field trip at Richmond High School and the Green Collar Corps, a skill development internship of 600 hours for four Richmond young adults.

  • YES Nature to Neighborhoods

    CAMP

    YES Nature to Neighborhoods leads a weekend long family camp at the beautiful YMCA Camp Loma Mar in Pescadero, two after school family events for Nystrom and Verde and monthly recess enrichment (camp to playground) for all students at Nystrom and Verde.

  • Yoots

    FIELD TRIP TRANSPORTATION

    Youth Transportation Organization (Yoots) provides all of the transportation for all Richmond Outdoors Coalition field trips

  • Community and Schoolwide Events

    FAMILY EVENTS

    Richmond Outdoors Coalition program partners lead family activities at schoolwide and community events throughout the year.
